Laura Frances Heitzman

For my portfolio I have designed collections for Whistles, Balmain, Monki, The Fifth and Mary Katrantzou. The S/S 17 Balmain collection is based around the fear of the sea, a key element within this collection is the fear of the unknown. Humans have only explored 5% of the sea, highlighting the danger and power it holds. The sea can make us feel vulnerable; this concept is reflected in the experimentation with sheer fabrics and nudity in the designs, contrasting with stronger fabrics such as leather. Flashes of bright colours toward the end of the collection bring attention to the hidden beauty within the sea.

For my Photography and Styling project, I produced a hypothetical advertising campaign for Calvin Klein inspired by 90’s grunge and the heroin chic fashion movement. Influences include the films Trainspotting (1996) and Kids (1995) and 90’s grunge icons with Kate Moss being the main muse.
