Eleanor Dorrington Ward

This project focuses on methods of constructing garments without using a sewing machine. Through research and development I have used a combination of alternative traditional and modern techniques in order to produce garments. These techniques include felting, laser cutting and bonding. When wool fibre is applied to delicate fabrics it enables the material to mold, creating a structured silhouette. In addition, when wool fibres are punched between two pieces of fabric it creates a strong bond between the fibres; I have used this at the seams on light weight fabric.
Laser cutting sears the edges of the fabric and therefore creates neat edges which do not fray. Pattern pieces for this collection design feature. In order to bond the garment together, pattern pieces were pieced together with Bondaweb and heat was applied.
