Hannah McGilvery

I am exploring human interferences in the urban landscape through photography, video and sound. Through my artwork I hope to invoke awareness to the quantity of human-produced rubbish,  which can be found scattered across our urban and natural landscapes. My work considers the journey of objects that society perceive as rubbish, such as plastic bags that find new habitats in trees. In my videos and photobooks, I am interested in portraying a journey of walking and encounters in outside urban places, uncovering found items that we seem to have grown accustom to, as their entwinement tightens further into the landscape. Despite the negative connotations of the action of littering, I hope to demonstrate that both a sinister and beautiful element can be found in the coexistence of nature’s foliage and man-made items in urban landscapes.
