During my 4 years at University I have developed a keen interest for menswear design. Last year I spent a year in Amsterdam which helped me to gain valuable insight into the fashion industry. I completed 2 placements, the first in menswear design and the second centring on Quality control. During the latter I worked with the denim department which made me fall in love with denim.
On returning to University for my final year I was inspired to take my appreciation of denim into both my dissertation and final collection. The fabric is ubiquitous, diverse and classless which is why I used it for a political campaign to raise awareness for the refugee crisis. I up-cycled old denim jeans due to their durability and created interesting shapes from the 5 pocket denim jean that everyone recognises. The outcome of both denim projects has encouraged my desire to work with denim.
