My practice concerns the interrelation between art and design and the interaction between colours, both within the two-dimensional image and the three-dimensional space of the studio. My paintings, which sample colours, are influenced by Colour Field painters but also those artists involved in the ‘Colour Chart’ exhibition.

Square and isometric grids were used to express the interaction between colours, and these developed into repeating patterns. Such patterns take influence from other fields of design and from earlier modules studied in the Art and Design programme.

The materiality of the paint in the larger, rougher pieces is juxtaposed with the more detailed, smaller pieces of work. I consider it important to show the gesture involved in painting. The project was developed through different series which involved sampling methods, materials, colours and layouts.
